New at the University 2009: the Centre for Engineering Innovation. A friend from the University emailled me these colour renderings of the new Centre for Engineering Innovation. The intersection in the lower left hand corner is where Wyandotte meets California (l-r). The new academic facility is valued at $110 million dollars, and will be constructed to meet the Gold level of Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standards.
The University has a construction tender out right now for construction of new service tunnels from the existing tunnel network, to the location of the new building. The tunnels are to be installed over the summer, and the first foundations of the building are to be laid in the fall. Good news for many, although this comes at many folks’ former gradeschool’s expense (Prince of Wales). More pics after the jump..

From California Street.

The interior will feature a living wall that connects to the HVAC system, similar to the one at the Medical Education Building.

A very well lit interior during the day. I recall hearing that window panes will feature a type of heat storage/usage mechanism for building heating.

The CEI from the corner of Wyandotte and California.
